Crafting System Overview
Crafting is central to Rust progression. Every item you craft requires blueprints, time, and resources. Understanding workbench tiers, research paths, and blueprint acquisition accelerates your wipe progression dramatically.
Workbench Tier System
Workbenches come in four tiers. Tier 1 benches craft basic tools, armor, and weapons. Tier 2 enables intermediate items like mid-tier guns and electrical components. Tier 3 unlocks high-tech items and advanced weapons. Tier 4 provides elite weapons, vehicles, and end-game technology.
Each tier requires standing in proximity to craft higher-tier items. Plan your base layout with workbench placement for maximum efficiency. Protect workbenches from raiders - losing them sets your clan back significantly.
Tier 1 Workbench - Foundation Building
Tier 1 enables essential items: tools, torches, basic armor, and starter weapons. Prioritize crafting a pickaxe for resource gathering. Gun powder is your first gunpowder ingredient. Cloth armor protects early. This tier dominates the first 30 minutes of wipes.
Tier 2 Workbench - Mid-Game Acceleration
Tier 2 unlocks mid-tier weapons like the M92, Pump Shotgun, and Armor pieces. Electrical components become available. Progression accelerates. Place Tier 2 benches in secure areas protected from early raids. Farming resources increases dramatically at this stage.
Tier 3 Workbench - Competitive Weapons
Tier 3 crafts competitive weapons: AK-47, M249, and high-tier armor. Advanced electrical systems become craftable. This tier separates established clans from solos. Reaching Tier 3 quickly provides significant competitive advantage. Security becomes critical - protect your Tier 3 at all costs.
Tier 4 Workbench - End Game
Tier 4 enables elite weapons, vehicles, and specialized equipment. Very few clans reach this tier before wipes. Focus on lower tiers for practical gameplay. Tier 4 becomes important only in server lifespans exceeding 2 weeks.
Blueprint Acquisition
Blueprints unlock item crafting. Scavenge blueprints from monuments, crates, and locked areas. Research table accepts unknown blueprints for analysis. Blueprint fragments combine into complete blueprints. Craft duplicates to learn multiple blueprints simultaneously.
Prioritize learning blueprints for items you'll craft constantly: ammunition, weapons, and components. Skip decorative blueprints initially.
Research Table & Tech Tree
Research tables analyze items to learn their blueprints. Place research tables near scrap sources. Research unknown blueprints you find. Higher tier workbenches expand available research options. The tech tree shows dependencies - some items require other blueprints first.
Optimal Tech Progression Path
Day 1: Gather stone and wood. Craft basics at Tier 1. Build furnaces for sulfur smelting. Research found blueprints for common items. Day 2: Transition to metal tools. Farm monuments for scrap and blueprints. Establish resource farms. Get Tier 2 standing. Day 3+: Craft mid-tier weapons at Tier 2. Push for Tier 3. The exact path varies by server wipe length and playstyle.
Blueprint Priority List
Prioritize learning:
- Ammunition - craft bullets constantly
- Weapons - adapt to combat needs
- Components - furnaces, grill, door controllers
- Armor - upgrade protection tiers
- Electricity - automation and defense systems
Crafting Efficiency Tips
Craft in batches. Build multiple furnaces for parallel production. Prioritize research of high-value blueprints. Delegate crafting to specialized clan members. Design base layouts to minimize travel between crafting stations. Queue crafting while organizing raids or gathering resources.
Monument Blueprints
Monuments contain rare blueprints. Sewer Branch yields electrical blueprints. Cargo Ship provides mid-tier items. Lighthouse offers unique loot. Harbor and Trainyard have specialized blueprints. Plan monument runs with your clan to acquire desired blueprints faster.
