Harbor is a tier 1 oceanside monument featuring one of the most straightforward puzzles in Rust. The reward is a blue keycard, which opens tier 2 monument areas. Harbor is an excellent stepping stone between early game monuments and more complex ruins. Both large and small variants exist, but the puzzle mechanics are identical.
Harbor contains 28 barrels, 15 basic crates, and 3 military crates scattered throughout the area. You'll gather approximately 125 scrap from a complete run, making it a decent farming monument. No elite crates spawn here. The run takes 5-10 minutes depending on your efficiency. Check the monument loot calculator for exact crate locations.
Bring a green keycard, one fuse, and basic medical supplies. No radiation suit needed. A pickaxe is helpful for breaking down crates efficiently.
The puzzle is located in an outskirts building separate from the main harbor structure. Enter the building and head to the bottom floor. Insert your fuse into the fuse slot, then flip the switch on the bottom floor to power the building. With electricity flowing, head upstairs to the top floor. Swipe your green keycard on the card reader. The door opens to reveal the reward room.
The puzzle is not dangerous, but the building is isolated. Bring teammates or scout the area beforehand to ensure you won't be ambushed while solving it.
Inside the reward room, you'll find one or two crates containing a blue keycard. This is the entire point of running Harbor. The blue keycard grants access to tier 2 monuments like the large oil rig and certain areas of the underwater labs. Save it or use it immediately depending on your progression.
Hit the barrels and basic crates first. They're quick and low-risk. Work your way through the harbor area methodically. The military crates are positioned throughout the zone, so explore thoroughly. Once you've collected scattered loot, tackle the puzzle and claim your blue keycard.
Harbor is popular for early game farming because it's accessible but still valuable. Expect competition during peak hours. Visit during off-peak times if possible, or run with a team to deter solo players.
No radiation at Harbor, making it completely safe to explore without protective gear. You won't encounter scientists or automated turrets. The main threat is other players. Be aware of your surroundings as you loot.
Combine Harbor runs with nearby monuments like Ferry Terminal or Lighthouse to maximize your journey efficiency. Plan a circuit around the coastline to reduce travel time and consolidate loot.
Harbor comes in two sizes. The large variant has more barrels and crates, offering better scrap yields. The small variant is quicker but less rewarding. Both have identical puzzle mechanics and the same blue keycard reward. Choose based on your time availability and risk tolerance. Solo players often prefer small Harbor for faster, safer runs.
Run Harbor early in your wipe progression when you're preparing for tier 2 monuments. It's an ideal stepping stone that teaches you basic puzzle mechanics without overwhelming complexity. The blue keycard is your gateway to bigger loot opportunities. After obtaining your first blue keycard, subsequent Harbor runs are less critical unless you need multiple keycards for your team.
